Enclosed or open emitter?

An enclosed optic seals the emitter within the housing, helping keep the light path protected from dust, lint and other debris. This can suit demanding carry, range and professional environments. An open emitter uses a simpler open window and can provide a wide sight picture with less housing around the lens. Neither layout automatically determines the footprint, battery system or reticle, so compare those specifications separately.

RMR and RMSc footprints are not interchangeable

The footprint is the physical mounting interface. Full-size Osight products such as the XE, XR, C and X use the RMR pattern, while compact models such as the SE, S and K use the smaller RMSc pattern. An adapter may solve some mounting combinations, but it can affect height and co-witness. Confirm the slide cut, screw specification and torque guidance supplied by the firearm, slide or adapter manufacturer. Replaceable battery or magnetic charging cover?

Osight offers both approaches. The Osight XE AMRS and Osight C use side-loading CR1632 batteries, allowing battery replacement without removing the optic. The Osight XR and Osight X use rechargeable optics with magnetic charging covers. Compact models have their own power specifications, so check the individual product page rather than assuming that every Osight charges in the same way.

Reticle colour, size and viewing window

A smaller dot supports precise aiming, while a larger dot or circle can be faster to acquire. Multi-reticle models allow the dot, circle or a combination to be selected according to the model. Red and green options can appear different against changing South African light and background conditions; colour preference is personal rather than a universal performance rule. Window size also affects the viewing experience, particularly during movement and rapid transitions.
